Therefore also pleading for the adventures to be at least twice as long in terms of playing time. A character's early death just doesn't hit the player as hard as it maybe should. Similar to True Colors, you should also mourn a character quite early in the story, which in this case is quite well concealed by the story, but should not become the standard formula in the games. The story revolves around the death of a good friend of Sam's, who reluctantly returns to his old hometown for the funeral service. Also not only the playing time was shortened but also the number of hotspots. There are still a lot of characters and locations for the relatively short playing time. Which is one underlying theme of the game, right along with the conclusion that you shouldn't take it personal.7h 48m PlayedThe shortest of the Dontnod/Deck9 adventures at only about 7 hours, correspondingly less time to introduce the player to the main character Sam, an investigative journalist who often has his imaginary friend (twin) at his side for advice. But I don't think that the motivations, symbolism and themes are as relateable and accessible to everyone like in Dontnod's other games. Don't expect a technical marvel, but it's polished, well-designed and with only few exceptions has exactly the right pacing and playtime. A lot of people will just be plain bored or disappointed because they expected a murder mystery you solve with superpowers, but that's really just the cover of this book. Yeah, this won't be for everyone, and you will have to be in the mood. And replace it with the boring dystopia that it would be in reality, and what Francis York and Zack would look like if they grew up in that reality, starting with the medication they would have to take. And now take out all of the goofiness, the jokes, the comedy, the collectables and the wonky car. And now take out all of the goofiness, the Imagine "Deadly Premonition", with the same kind of small town archetypes and a very similar hero. Imagine "Deadly Premonition", with the same kind of small town archetypes and a very similar hero. Wait for a very good sale offer and spend a couple of bucks but full price or close to that?! Nope. ![]() But let's just say that I don't recommend buying it. How are you supposed to care about ANY character in the game if all you see is an emotionless face, that is supposed to show anger, joy, sadness ( the whole "Inside Out" thing) but just looks like this one particular Kristen Steward meme? I could go on and on. ![]() Another thing that really doesn't help the game is the abstinence of any kind of visible facial emotion. The story as a whole is short and given the boringness of it all that is sad, because if you watch a boring movie or read a boring bock time seems normally to stand still. If you can look at an object or talk to a person at the first try without walking back and forth once, you are lucky. The game play does NOT help the overall game experience. I mean sure, the story is supposed to be all sad (dead best friend etc.) but it just don't gets the tone right for the vast majority of the story. There is not really anything happening that generates emotions or some real dilemmas. ![]() You start with knowing nothing about them, you end with knowing a tiny bit more about them but over all - again - you just don't care. You just don't care (which would also be a fitting name for the game by the way). You don't care who he is, what will happen to him. ![]() The protagonist ist as bland as a sack of flour and don't get your hopes up people, because he will stay that way. The protagonist ist as bland as a sack of flour I really tried to like the game, the protagonist, the NPCs, the story but I just didn't.
